Interior Designing

Overview: Interior design courses train students to plan and decorate functional, beautiful indoor spaces. This covers homes, offices, retail stores, etc. Who should take it? Creative individuals interested in architecture,  lanning. It’s usually pursued after 12th (some take it after graduation or alongside architecture). When & why: Enroll if you aspire to become an interior designer or decorator – especially given India’s booming real estate and the trend of organized interiors. Demand for interior designers has skyrocketed as urban spaces become smaller and people seek to maximize aesthetics in limited areas【47†L113-L121】【47†L127-L135】. With many celebrities (e.g. Suzanne Khan, Twinkle Khanna) launching interior labels, public interest in this field is high【47†L122-L130】. Interior design courses can open opportunities in the creative design industry with relatively short training time.
Career Opportunities: Qualified interior designers can architectural firms, interior design companies, construction and real estate developers, furniture companies*, or as independent consultants. Career roles include Interior Designer, Residential Space Planner, Commercial Interior Designer, Set Designer (for events/film), or 3D Interior Visualizer. Given rising living standards, even middle-class homeowners hire designers, so one can freelance or start a studio. Talented designers may also find work in the hospitality sector (designing hotel and restaurant interiors) or retail (store layouts). With experience, one can advance to Senior Designer, Project Manager, or open their own design firm. The field rewards creative portfolio and project experience; initial salaries might be modest (~₹2–4 LPA for freshers), but experienced designers command higher fees per project, especially in metro cities where demand is concentrated【47†L127-L135】.
